The Other Stuff I Should Resolve To Do

IMG_0902Yes living in the now is a big one. And it should be the umbrella for a lot of little things. However there are a few things I would like to change and I hope they help me keep my mind present. When I set goals for the year I set the bar pretty low and the words: “everyday” aren’t a part of it unless I’m resolving to eat food, waste time, and breath. I’ve got those things nailed everyday.

So here’s my list with the low setting bar of consistently three times a week:

The gym. I will go to the gym three times a week. Going to the gym gets me out of the house during the week and among other living breathing humans. Plus it’s healthy to go to the gym and I’m happy with my body and want to maintain it. (this is the toughest one because I hate leaving my house when it’s cold)

I’m a voracious reader. I read heaps and heaps of web content but I don’t read many books. This fall I gave New Boyfriend a favorite book to read while he was on vacation. How delightful it was to discuss it with him. I had almost forgotten what that was like. My expartner and I read many of the same books we would rehash for days afterwards. I want to read books again and not just of the”. . .when Lady Evelyn Fitsmore swooned at the masque ball little did she know the dashing stranger in the domino was the very man who vanquished her grief so many years ago on the edge of the French battlefield. . .” To clarify my ex and I did not deconstruct Regency Romances. I’m promising myself I’ll read four books this year that don’t have royal titles, adjectives, or action verbs in the title. I’m not promising I won’t read a dozen romance novels in addition to literary fiction. I’m going to the beach for ten days in March and when I’m not in a compromising position with my boy toy friend I’ll be reading romance novels.

I will create the habit of meditating daily. Fifteen minutes. Not looking for nirvana but just head clearing visualizations. Nothing tricky no specified mantras but a place to quiet the monkey mind, move my vibration up, and manifest those things I want in my life.

I will write in long hand for fifteen minutes, not allowing my pen to leave paper and no self editing.  It’s a great exercise especially after meditation.

I will cook using one new recipe a month. Someone gave me a subscription to Bon Apetit and I should make good use of it. My Secret Santa gave me a huge basic cookbook. I have a lot to choose from and I should just do it.

I think I can manage this list: gym, reading, meditating, writing, and cooking. Not rocket science. And thank goodness I don’t need to quit smoking or lose weight. I’ve done those before and don’t want to jump those hurdles ever again.

About Laura

When my nest emptied I moved from the big city to a little big town to tend to a ramshackle yellow house on the edge of town. These are my Yellow House Days.

  1. More power to you! I am just not good at goals like that. I like to freeform. Which is why I haven’t met some of my most significant goals.

That’s way too much pressure for me. Getting out and ready are good. 🙂 Good luck though and I have faith in you. You did that gratitude things 345 days more than I did last year.

This is awesome. I need goals. It’s just when I think about it..I end up watching TV or something. sigh.

  4. Lana says:

Great goals – and they all seem doable. I want to read more books this year too – I’m with you, lots of reading on the internet, not enough books.

I need to re-learn deep reading. I’m getting better as I am doing research on the web and reading medical studies, that sort of thing for work. But I’ve lost some of my attention span largely reading short blog posts and taking Facebook quizzes. LOL
